Individuals are unable to request DBS checks – they can only be requested by employers – which is, of course, slightly problematic for part-time babysitters.
There are 3 different types of DBS checks:
Standard (£26): This check reports on spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings.
Enhanced (£44):This reports as per the Standard DBS check, but also includes any other relevant information that a local police station may hold.
Enhanced/Barred List Check (£44): The DBS has a ‘barred list’ which contains people that have been deemed unsuitable to work with children and vulnerable adults. The Enhanced DBS/Barred List Check cross-checks this list and notifies an employer if a candidate is on it.
The online update service allows you to keep your DBS check up to date. click here for more info.
